Grade 12

The 5 Steps High School Program is designed for students aged 14-18. Admission to 5 Steps High School is selective. This means that students have to demonstrate their diligence in studies, excellent academic results and behaviour to be approved by the 5 Steps Academic Board.  

High School students can achieve the High School Certificate following US College Board standards (US stream) or Cambridge Assessment International Education standards (UK stream). The High School Certificate with SAT and AP test results is accepted by almost all universities globally, not only in the USA, and is equivalent to higher IB and A-level. Similarly, Cambridge IGSCE and A-levels certificates are accepted by almost all universities globally, not only in the UK, and are equivalent to higher IB and US High School Certificates.

The High School students of the US stream have to choose at least five of following subjects (AP English Language and Composition and AP Calculus or AP Statistics are mandatory):

AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics 1 & 2, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP 2-D Arts and Design, AP 3-D Arts and Design, AP Art History, AP Drawing, AP US History, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Spanish, or AP Chinese,

and/or

For the UK stream, at least three A-levels (A-level English Language and A-level Mathematics are mandatory): A-level Mathematics, A-level Physics, A-level Chemistry, A-level Biology, A-level English Language, A-Level Economics, A-Level Computer Science, A-Level IT, A-level Global Perspectives & Research (if you pursue the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma).

Students who are academically strong and want their school transcripts to shine may take SAT, APs and A-levels.

All students must take Pre-Calculus and Health modules.

Students of the US stream will sit for SAT (August or December) and AP (May) tests. Please find the US universities requirements and the factors enhancing the chances of admission here and resources useful for college admission (the US, UK and Europe).

Duration

10 months or depending on the student’s abilities and individual pace. The course duration can be increased on a case-by-case basis for students with special education needs. The maximum period allowed for a student to complete the course is 15 months. This is a full-time course. 

Age: at least 16 years old

Academic Level: Grade 11 or Equivalent.

Assessment Methods

Quarterly Tests and Year-End Examinations for all subjects. 

Assessment Grading Criteria

Internal: Quarterly Tests, Year-End Examinations and Quarterly Assignments are marked according to 5 Steps Academy’s standard, College Board and/or Cambridge assessment criteria.

Expected Examination Results Release Date

Not more than 3 months after the final assessment.

Qualification Award

Certificate of Completion for Grade 12. Cambridge Assessment International Education A level certificates for UK stream students and College Board Advanced Placement certificates for US stream students. Students who opted for both AP and A level subjects will receive certificates from both examination boards.  

Graduation Requirements

For US Pathway: 1) Pass SAT and minimum five AP subject exams

For Cambridge Pathway: Pass minimum three A-level subject exams.

Students can gain Distinction if they obtain at least an 80% score in each graduation exam.

Students can gain Merit if they obtain at least a 60% score in one graduation exam and a 75% score in all the rest of the graduation exams. 

Note 1:International students who hold student passes must achieve at least 90% attendance rate (ICA Requirement).
Note 2:Any student (not only student pass holder) must not be absent for more than 7 consecutive days without valid reason (ICA Requirement).
Note 3:Students who do not require ICA’s student’s pass must achieve at least 80% attendance rate. Our school only accept medical certificates as proof for absenteeism. Any other documents should only be accepted on a case-by-case basis with full justification and be acceptable by ICA.

Not meeting the above requirements may lead to Student Pass cancelation and/or expulsion from the school.
