Academic Results

High expectations. Personal attention. Strong academic results.

At 5 Steps Academy, we combine academic ambition with education shaped around each child. Small-group teaching, individual learning plans and one-to-one support give students the attention they need to work towards demanding academic goals.

Our school-reported Attainment 8 scores were 72.81 in 2024 and 68.22 in 2025. Both recorded scores are well above the corresponding national benchmarks for schools in England: 45.9 and 46.0. This provides an encouraging picture of our students’ achievement across a range of subjects.

STRONG ATTAINMENT ACROSS SUBJECTS

Attainment 8 brings together results across a defined combination of up to eight qualifications. It recognises achievement in English and mathematics alongside other academic subjects and approved qualifications.

01 attainment 8 comparison

The numerical differences between the recorded school scores and the England benchmarks are 26.91 points in 2024 and 22.22 points in 2025.

OUR REPORTED ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS AND EBACC INDICATORS

The school’s English and mathematics indicator was 73% in 2024 and 71% in 2025. Our EBacc indicator was 65% in 2024 and 69% in 2025.

For context, England’s percentage achieving GCSE grade 5 or above in both English and mathematics was 45.9% in 2024 and 45.4% in 2025. England’s full EBacc entry rate was 40.4% and 40.5%, respectively.

WHAT DO THESE KPIs MEAN?

KPI means “key performance indicator”: a measure used to describe a particular part of school performance.

Attainment 8: achievement across subjects
This score combines results in up to eight eligible qualifications. Mathematics counts twice. The higher English result counts twice when both English language and English literature are taken. Three places are for eligible EBacc subjects, and three are open to other approved qualifications. Unfilled places count as zero. A school’s average summarises its pupils’ scores. It is a points score, not a percentage.

English and mathematics: meeting a standard in both subjects
England’s measure counts the percentage of pupils achieving at least GCSE grade 5 in mathematics and in either English language or English literature. A pupil must meet both requirements. It indicates how many pupils reach this threshold in two subjects that support further study.

EBacc entry: breadth of academic study
The English Baccalaureate covers English, mathematics, sciences, a language, and history or geography. The entry rate measures how many pupils take the required subject combination. Entry is different from passing, and EBacc is a performance measure rather than a separate qualification.
